The remote village of Dardpora, which is located at the base of the Dat-Hammu Ridge line, is home to about 9500 people. The community is underdeveloped and backward due to its location, and the majority of its citizens are poor and unemployed. The Indian Army and Max Life Insurance founded the Vajra Skill Development & Employment Centre (Cutting & Tailoring) to provide the local women of Dardpora with the necessary training for professional advancement. The Vajra Cutting and Tailoring Centre in the remote village of Dardpora, also known as “Village of Widows” because of its turbulent past. To help the villagers become independent and to foster entrepreneurial skills, the centre teaches cutting and tailoring techniques. The 30 young girls who are currently taking the classes are stitching national flags with enthusiasm because they have been asked to do so by various locations in the Kupwara district. For basic training, the centre has three rooms with four sewing machines. For intermediate and advanced training, the centre has six motorized stitching machines, one interlocking machine, and one embroidery machine. A capable instructor is assisting and guiding twenty girls towards self-employment. These young women have volunteered to sew Tiranga for the homes in these rural areas and are distributing them to every home in the village as part of the country’s efforts. Even in the snow, they continue to visit the centre, demonstrating their love.
They demonstrate their love for the Tiranga by visiting the centre even when it is snowing. The Indian Army has adopted the government’s Skill India Mission as a model and given them all necessary support in terms of equipment and funding their training. The Army has provided them with a springboard to boost their belief that these girls can achieve independence through their skills, passion, and perseverance. A order of more than 5000 flags have been completed by these women through various skill centres run by Army in the of district of Kupwara. The locals promised to raise the flags at their homes in appreciation of the govts efforts. A source of pride and an indication of progress in Kashmir is the Tiranga that is flying high in every home in a village like Dardpora. The Vajra Skill Development and Employment Centre at Dardpora is a remarkable initiative designed to give women in the Dardpora area of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir access to vocational training and job opportunities. One of the key objectives of the centre is to promote entrepreneurship among the women of the Dardpora region. To this end, the centre provides entrepreneurship training to women who are interested in starting their own businesses. The training includes guidance on developing a business plan, identifying potential customers, and managing finances. The centre also aids women in securing loans and other financial support to start their businesses.
This skill development centre has been a great success since its inception. Many women who have completed courses at the centre have found employment in the garment industry. Some of the women have also started their own businesses and are now providing employment to others in the region.

One of the success stories of the Vajra Skill Development and Employment Centre is the story of Amina, a young woman from a rural area who had to drop out of school due to financial constraints. Amina joined the tailoring course at the centre and was able to complete her training successfully. After completing her training, she started her own tailoring business and she is now financially independent. The success of the centre can be attributed to the support it has received from the local community, as well as the government. The government has provided funding for the centre, while the local community has provided support in the form of volunteers who help with the day-to-day operations of the centre.
This Centre is an excellent example of how vocational training can help create employment opportunities and promote entrepreneurship among the youth in rural areas. It is an initiative that can be replicated in other parts of the country, providing much-needed support to rural communities and helping to boost the economy. Many young women who were previously unemployed or underemployed have been able to secure jobs after completing their training at the centre. The centre has also contributed to the development of the local economy by providing a skilled workforce to the industry.
This Centre is a shining example of how skill development training can empower youth and transform communities. The centre has demonstrated that with the right training and support, young people from rural areas can acquire the skills they need to secure employment and become self-sufficient. In conclusion, the Vajra Skill Development and Employment Centre at Dardpora is a valuable initiative that is making a significant impact on the lives of young women in the region. The centre provides training and employment opportunities to women from rural areas and has contributed to the development of the local economy. The success of the centre is a testament to the importance of skill development training in empowering women and transforming communities.
