KULGAM, FEBRUARY 28: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat today chaired a monthly meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss various measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district and review the implementation of decisions and directions passed in previous meeting.

At the outset of the meeting, SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal informed that 28 cases were registered under NDPS in the month of February across the district. He also added that 34 drug peddlers were arrested w.e.f 01 February, 2023.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use, and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curbing the menace of drugs.

The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace.

Concerned from the Education department were instructed to submit a list of health and wellness clubs to schedule a training programme accordingly for these clubs under project ‘Rehnuma’ which is an initiative of District Administration to hold a systematic set of activities, to reach out the people to make them aware about drug menace.

Besides, it was decided that joint teams will launch aggressive poppy destruction drives across the district to put an end to poppy at an early stage this season.

The meeting was attended by ADC Viqar Ahmed Giri, ACR Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, ACP Shurjeel Ali, ACD Mohammad Imran Khan, Principals of Degree Colleges, DSWO, DFO, CAO, CMO and other officers from various departments.
