Secretary Health reviews progress on establishment of Rs 104 cr Cancer Institute, Jammu and Kashmir 

Asks to start OPD, Day Care Services in first week of February

JAMMU, JANUARY 24: Secretary Health & Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar, today convened a meeting at Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar to review progress on establishment of State Cancer Institute, Jammu.  Secretary had detailed assessment of status of building construction, procurement of machinery and equipments besides selection of Human resource including faculty, nursing and para medical staff by Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission and Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board.  During the meeting, it was informed that Rs 104 crore State Cancer Institute Jammu had been approved under Centrally Sponsored Scheme by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, under “National Programme for Prevention of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke (NPCDCS). Besides, most of the works under existing DPR are near completion or in the final stages.  Further, It was informed that the State Cancer Institute shall provide State of art cancer prevention and treatment in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir especially in Jammu region with latest technology and scientific knowledge so that the patients don’t have to go out of Union Territory for cancer treatment. The Government of J&K has already entered into an MoU with Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai for hand holding, development and trainings.  After threadbare discussion, Secretary issued directions for starting of Out Patient Department and Day Care Services in State Cancer Institute in first week of February 2023. He further directed for timely procurement of machinery and equipments for the institute. He also asked the officers to speed up expansion of surgical and intensive care services so as to provide quality services to the patients in the UT.  The meeting was attended by Principal Government Medical College, Jammu, Director Finance H&ME, Director Coordination New GMCs, MD JKMSCL, Joint Director Planning, H&ME, Nodal Officer, SCI  while Dr Ashish Gulia, Director Homi Baba Research Centre Mumbai participated online.
