Chess is one of the oldest and most popular board game played all over the world by various age groups. The board game is played over 64 squares with two sets of 16 pieces which are black and white in colour.

*Indian Army* in collaboration with *District Chess Association* and *Growth Sports Academy* conducted the competition on 26-27 November at Degree college Kupwara, under the stewardship of *Aadil Manzoor Peer* , a renowned Ice Stock player who recently represented India in *Italy* . A total of *170* players participated in the event in sub junior, junior and senior categories.

The event was inaugurated on 26 November 2022 by CO 41 RR and Prof Md Shafi Lone, Principal GDC Kupwara by sharing words of encouragement for the participants.

The winners of the championship in sub junior girls was *Amreena Aijaz* and *Dawood Akhtar* for boys.
In junior category *Saleeqa Tariq* won in girls and *Yahya Mubarak* in boys.
For senior category *Syed Soliha Nazir* in girls and *Ishfaq Ahmad Wad* in boys were winners.

The winners were awarded with certificates, medals and trophies to appreciate their skills and to further encourage them towards sports and outdoor activities.
