DC Budgam flags off bike awareness rally against drug menace

BUDGAM, JUNE 26: Celebrating the International Day against the drug abuse and Illicit trafficking, the Deputy Commissioner Budgam Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza today flagged off a bike awareness  rally against the menace in the district.

The rally was organised by District Social Welfare Office Budgam under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Scores of bikers participated in the rally which started from the DC Office and went through various area of Budgam and Khansahab and later culminated at DC Office Budgam.

On the occasion, District Social Welfare Office Budgam in collaboration with District Administration also organised a daylong awareness programme on drug abuse and Illicit trafficking at Sheikh-ul-Alam Hall Budgam, where a galaxy of  resources persons spoke threadbare on various aspects of drug abuse and its impact on the society in general and on youth in particular.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, the DC Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza, emphasised on massive awareness  generation on drug abuse as its important part followed by enforcement and treatment to curb the menace in the society.

He said though the Civil and police administrations are doing their work however, we all as society have to play the role and save our youth.

He said district administration is putting all efforts to curb the menace and the same has been recognized and district has bagged second position at national level for its work under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan across the country.

He said the need is to involve youth towards co curricular and sports activities and drug abuse awareness is made compulsory part of school assembly for better results.

While presenting the welcome address, the DSWO, Dr Farhana Asgar, highlighted the achievements by the District Administration in curbing the menace in Budgam.

She said that social welfare office Budgam has been working tirelessly to create awareness through nukad nataks, seminars and other public outreach programmes under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to ensure the drug abuse is controlled and fully curbed in the District.

DSWO also hailed the Police and other concerned civil departments for playing pivotal  role in curbing the drug abuse.

She said that first  additional treatment facility was set up in Budgam.

SSP Budgam Tahir Saleem, ADC Budgam, CMO Budgam, CEO, Medical Superintendent DH Budgam also spoke on the occasion and urged youth to stay away from the drugs.

The resources emphasized upon everyone to play a role in creating awareness and help in curbing drug abuse from society.

On the occasion, renowned artists also performed a skit to raise awareness on the adverse impact of the dangerous trend of drug abuse besides highlighting  the role of parents and teachers in controlling the menace.

The DC also felicitated winners of painting and essay competitions held across various educational institutions on drug abuse menace.  DSWO, Dr Farhana Asgar, social workers  and others were also felicitated for their great role and  contribution towards drug abuse control in Budgam.

Meanwhile, similar awareness programmes were also held at all SDM and all 13 Educational Zones of Budgam.
