TWO TERRORISTS ELIMINATED IN OP DANVATPURA

Srinagar, 17 Jun 2022.  Based on specific input regarding the presence of unidentified terrorists in the general area of Danvatpura and Hangalgund, Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the Indian Army, JKP and CRPF in the area at about 2:00 pm on 16 Jun 22. After placing the cordon, the Security Forces started the procedure of evacuation of civilians from the area. While doing so at about 4:15 pm, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and lobbed grenades on own troops. After carrying out retaliatory fire, the Security Forces evacuated balance of civilians from the area and proceeded with the search operation. The terrorists were then engaged and both the terrorists were neutralised. One AK rifle and one pistol and other warlike stores were recovered from the encounter location. The Operation was called off at about 1.30 PM on 17 Jun 2022.

According to the JKP, both the neutralised terrorists belonged to HM and have been identified as Junaid Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Hangalgund, Anantnag, active since 10 Jun 18 and Basit Ahmed Wani, a resident of Danwatpura, Anantnag who was active since 18 Aug 21. The JKP also mentioned that Basit Ahmed Wani was involved in killing of Sarpanch Gh Rasool Dar and his wife, a Panch on 09 Sep 21 in Anantnag.
