The man who popularised disco in India, legendary singer, composer Bappi Lahiri has breathed his last. His death comes as a shock as there was no prior update on the singer’s health or news of him being hospitalised.
Lahiri passed away at Criti Care Hospital, Juhu at 3:00 AM.

The singer was admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated the following day after which the family called a doctor to visit Lahiri at home. He was then admitted back to the hospital and passed away due to OSA Obstructive sleep apnea)

Born as Alokesh Lahiri, Lahiri is celebrated for bringing Disco music to India in the ’80s and ’90s and his collaboration with Mithun Chakraborty continues to be a hit with music enthusiasts across generations.

He has gone on to create hit sountracks for films like Wardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi, Dance Dance, Commando, Saaheb, Sailab. His last songs were Bhankas in Baaghi 3 (2020), and Disco Raja (2020).

Apart from his contribution to music, Lahiri was famous for his love for gold. He was often snapped wearing layers of gold necklaces, rings and bracelets. Often addressed as the golden man, Lahiri’s favourite quote was ‘Gold is my god

‘ And coincidentally, his last post on Instagram was also dedicated to the same with the caption reading, “Old is always gold”

Lahiri is survived by his kids – Bappa Lahiri and daughter Rema. His son is married to Taneesha with whom he has a son Krishh.

The legend may not be amid us anymore but was a force to reckon with and will always live on with the melodious music he has created
