DDC Chairperson and former MLA Ganderbal urges Governor Administration to hike incentives for Milk producers, annouce package for them

Srinagar: DDC Chairperson Ganderbal Nuzhat Ishfaq and Former Legislator Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar on Saturday has said that the Governor Administration should come forward to help the dairy farmers and announce a financial assistance package besides waving of the loans for these distressed farmers.

In a statement issued here the duo has said that the Administration should look into the genuine issues of the dairy farmers and should come forward to mitigate their problems.

“The usual milk supply chain has been broken , they are selling on meager amounts, they are in distress. They have started these dairy farms on banks loan and before the issue becomes grave and jeopardizes the scheme , the administration should come forward, they added.

They said that Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the dairy farmers who play a crucial role in keeping the economy afloat.

Individual farmers should be provided assistance for cattle feed and all their loans should be waived off.

They said that the the teams constituted for this purpose should ascertain the factual position and possible remedial measures including Cooperative societies be roped in and made operational.

Both the leaders said that lockdown during the pandemic have reduced demand of milk and milk products which has severely affected the livelihood of the dairy farmers. They demanded that a package should be announced so that it will help dairy farmers in their sustenance during the crisis period.

Stating that Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the economy of the entire world including J&K, the dou said that only agriculture and ancillary sectors had kept the economy running during the period.
