Srinagar, Jan 7: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday offered ‘Fateha’ prayers at her father Mufti Muhammad Sayeed’s grave in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Large number of PDP workers led by Mehbooba Mufti assembled outside late Sayeed’s mausoleum in Bijbehara. Police tried to stop them but finally they were allowed to offer prayers.
PDP observed 6th dead anniversary of former chief minister Mufti Sayeed who died on January 7 in a New Delhi hospital.
Mehbooba Mufti accompanied by her party leaders and workers went to Bijbehara town to offer prayers at her father’s grave.
While talking to reporters, Mehbooba appealed people to resist the government move to allocate land for army and security forces. She alleged that administration is trying to scare her party workers.
She also thanked the workers who visited graveyard and offered fathia.
“On Mufti Sahab’s sixth death anniversary, Id like to thank everybody who paid rich tributes to him. We continue to believe & strive for his vision of a dignified & empowered J&K,” she said.
In another tweet she said: “J&K police is hounding my party workers who dared to offer fatiha at his grave today. Outlawing & criminalising even a simple act of paying respect & tribute to one’s leader shows state administration’s deep paranoia & intolerance,” Mehbooba tweeted.
