JKAACL assures support to such initiatives aimed at promoting indigenous art forms of J&K

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 28: The 5-day National Art camp, which began at the newly renovated Art Gallery at Sher Garhi Complex on Sunday, concluded here today.

As many as, 22 artists from across India participated in the camp and exhibited their unique artistic creations.

The event was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at the Art Gallery, Srinagar under the ongoing Iconic Week Festival being held as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.

Pertinently, this Art Museum was inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor on 15th August this year at the newly renovated Old Assembly Complex where the historic Stone Building stands dedicated to art works on full time basis.

Noted theatre and TV personality, M K Raina termed holding of National Painting camp cum Exhibition at Srinagar as a step forward towards bringing Valley into limelight. He said that Jammu and Kashmir has a rich tradition of fine arts and holding of such camps would greatly augment the rich treasure trove of UT’s art works.

Prominent among those who participated in the event from across India included Jagmohan Mathodya, K. Gill, Sanjay Roy, Vishakha Apte, Sabia Khan, Dr. A.K. Dixit, Chanchal Gangoly, Kishor Shankar and Vasant Vishnu. Those who participated from within the UT included Arshad Saleh, Masood Tabish, Yousuf Naqshbandi and Naushad Gayoor among others.

Apart from eminent national and local artists, several budding artists from across the Valley also participated in the 5-day event, which was first of its kind in the Art Museum Complex.

Sharing his views on the event, Academy’s Additional Secretary, Sanjeev Rana, said that JKAACL would keep on supporting such initiatives which aim at promotion of indigenous art forms of the UT.

The event was coordinated by Academy’s Assistant Exhibition Officer, Irshad Ahmad while proceedings of the event were conducted by Chief Editor Pahari, Dr. Farooq Anwaar Mirza.
