Labour Force Survey: J&K among five bottom states, UTs having lowest number of women holding managerial positions

Srinagar: A new study has revealed that Jammu and Kashmir has one of the lowest numbers of women employed as legislators, senior officials, and managers.

Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2019-20 has revealed that Jammu and Kashmir ranks fifth in the country having the lowest number of female workers holding managerial positions.

PLFS was released by National Statistical Office (NSO) recently. Over 9821 persons in 231 villages of rural J&K and 6328 persons in 1400 households of 175 blocks of Urban J&K were surveyed during the study.

The ratio of female workers to total workers in managerial positions is 9.2 percent in J&K. The UT is proceeded by other four states Andaman and Nicobar Island (9 percent), Delhi (7.9 percent), Haryana (7.5 percent), and Assam (6.9 percent).

The survey reveals that in rural J&K, the ratio of female workers to total workers in managerial positions is 7.5 percent against 12.0 in urban J&K. At the national level, the ratio of female workers to total workers in managerial positions is 18.7 percent.

Meghalaya topped the list among all states/UTs in 2019-20 with 34.1 percent ratio of female workers to total workers employed in senior and middle management positions. Sikkim followed next with a ratio of 33.5 percent, Mizoram with 33.3 percent, Andhra Pradesh with 32.3 percent, and Punjab with 32.1 percent, the PLFS report said.

The survey has positioned at J&K in four states having the lowest ratio of female workers working as legislators, senior officials, and managers against men. J&K has a ratio of 10.4 percent female workers working as legislators, senior officials, and managers against men. At the national level, the ratio is 23.2 percent.

The survey said the ratio of female workers to male workers as legislators, senior officials, and managers is 8.2 percent.

The report also highlighted that the ratio of female workers to male workers working as Professionals and Technical Worker in Jammu and Kashmir has been recorded at 45.9 percent. Of which areas 40.1 percent are from rural areas and 59.5 percent in urban areas.

AT the national level, the ratio of female workers to male workers working as professionals and technical workers has been recorded at 50.1 percent.
