A notification in this regard was issued today by the General Administration Department, according to which 12092 Government employees in various departments have opted to serve in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Interestingly, a number of these employees are domicile of J&K but want to serve in Ladakh. However, most of the employees, who have opted for Ladakh UT, are resident of Leh or Kargil.

Among these, 4712 employees are of School Education Department, 1995 of Home Department and 1763 of Health & Medical Education Department.

As per the details provided by the Government, 67 employees of Agriculture Production Department, 944 of Animal & Sheep Husbandry Department, seven of Election Department, 22 of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, 202 of Finance Department, two of Floriculture Department, 81 of Forest Department, 46 of GAD, one of Horticulture, 127 of Housing & Urban Development Department, 45 of Industries and Commerce, 41 of Information Department, 18 of Labour & Employment Department, six of Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs, 684 of PDD, 163 of RDD, four of Social Welfare Department, three of Tourism, 12 of Transport, 273 of Youth Services and Sports Department, 41 of Skill Development, five of ARI & Training, 41 of Culture Department, six of Revenue, 212 of Public Works Department, eight of Mining Department, four of Hospitality & Protocol, 99 of Cooperative Department, five of Higher Education and 453 of Jal Shakti Department have opted to serve in the UT of Ladakh.

These include some employees who are domicile of Jammu and Kashmir but have opted to serve in Ladakh. All those employees in Social Welfare Department, Tourism Department, Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Department, who have opted for Ladakh, are domicile of J&K.

On the other hand, 467 Government employees, who are permanent resident of Ladakh or Kargil, have opted for J&K. These include 353 employees of School Education Department, 90 of Home Department, 56 of Health & Medical Education Department, 15 of PDD, nine of Cooperative Department, three each of FCS&CA, Finance, GAD, Social Welfare, and Higher Education Department, one each of Horticulture, Lt Governor’s Secretariat, Tourism, Culture Department, Jal Shakti, PWD, Mining Department and Hospitality Department.

Pertinent to mention that pursuant to statutory obligation contained under Section 89(2) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, options with regard to allocation of Union Territory were sought from all employees of the erstwhile State of J&K.

After obtaining the option data of all the employees and re-verifying the same, the Government has now decided to apportion the manpower by allocating the employees opting to serve in Ladakh to the said UT and remaining employees to UT of J&K.

However, before the matter is placed before the Competent Authority, the employees, who have opted for serving in the UT of Ladakh and domicile employees of Ladakh, who have opted to serve in the UT of J&K, are being given an opportunity
to verify their details.

In case of any variation, grievance, change/alteration required to be effected, such employees can submit their representation duly endorsed by their controlling officers to their respective Administrative Department by September 6, 2019.
