Says un-adultered, safe food will decrease food borne diseases

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 4: Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr. Syed Hanief Balkhi presided over a meeting on Eat Right Srinagar, a Flagship program of Food Safety & Standards Authority of India. A detailed presentation was given by Assistant commissioner Food safety, Hilal Ahmad Mir regarding the activities that are to be undertaken under this program.

The officers in the meeting were informed that District Srinagar has been nominated for implementation of Eat Right challenge and funds have also been released for carrying out different activities under this challenge. The activities include both regulatory as well as awareness to Food Business Operators with the sole motive to ensure safe and wholesome food to consumers.

The activities that are to be covered include Registration and licensing drives, lifting of enforcement and surveillance samples, Foscoris Inspections, Fostac Training for Food Business operators, special camps for consumer awareness, Hygiene Rating, Hub Certification, Re-using of cooking oil, training to ASHA workers, ANMS and Anganwadi workers, organizing food safety awareness programs in Schools and universities etc.

It was decided in the meeting that every effort shall be made to achieve the maximum targets set out by the Food Authority of India.

Dr. Syed Hanief Balkhi, ADC Srinagar pointed out that if  un-adulterated and safe food is made available, the graph of food borne diseases will come down resulting in lowering influx of patients visiting our Hospitals. The meeting was also attended by the Chief Education officer, District Program Officer, Food Analyst Kashmir and all the Food Safety Officers of District Srinagar.
