India records 1.86 lakh new Covid cases in 24 hours, lowest in 44 days

India on Thursday recorded 1,86,364 new cases of coronavirus in a 24-hour period – low single-day rise in 44 days. Also, 3,660 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, according to health ministry data.

Maintaining the declining trend in daily cases, India on Friday recorded 1.86 lakh new cases of Covid-19 — the lowest 24-hour rise in 44 days — pushing the overall tally to 2.75 crore.

The death toll climbed to 3,18,895 with 3,660 fatalities reported in a 24-hour period, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said with 2,59,459 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the recovery rate in India increased to 90.34 per cent.

total of 2,48,93,410 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the country so far, the health ministry data showed.

The updated data showed that the number of active cases have further come down to 23,43,152, with a net decline of 76,755 in a span of 24 hours.

The daily case positivity rate also remains below 10 per cent (9%), the ministry said, while adding that weekly positivity rate has declined to 10.42 per cent.

Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Tamil Nadu with 33,361 cases, followed by Karnataka with 24,214 cases, Kerala with 24,166 cases, Maharashtra with 21,273 cases and Andhra Pradesh with 16,167 cases.

Around 63.94% of the new cases were reported from the five states, with Tamil Nadu accounting for 17.9%.

A total of 20.57 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far, the Union health ministry added. India administered a total of 29,19,699 doses in the last 24 hours.

The country, meanwhile, conducted 33,90,39,861 coronavirus tests on Thursday. “A total of 33,90,39,861 samples tested up to May 27. Of these, 20,70,508 samples tested yesterday,” the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said.
