Srinagar, May 21: The JK Radio Doordarshan and Stage Artists & freelance Producers & Directors Association has written to the Lt. Guv JK over the financial assistance of Rs 6000 to JK Radio, Doordarshan, Stage Artists, freelance Producers and Directors facing the worst crisis during the ongoing pandemic.
The association President stressed over the destitute plight of Artists Artists, freelance Producers and Directors who have been left in lurch from the past one decade.
The copy of the letter received by Daily Gadyal reads as, “Under present scenario the artist fraternity of this erstwhile state is the highest sufferer on economic front as this section of the society which include performing stage artists, radio and television artists, the musician, the singer the equipment holders, writers, the freelance producers and directors has been jobless since 2009-10.”
The letter further reads, “Because Prasar Bharti has been quite indifferent towards this fraternity and we have been left in lurch. A huge backlog since 2009 has been in limbo and not released to the concerned and fresh work in fiction category not allotted to this fraternity since 2010.With the result this fraternity has become worst sufferer and we are unable to make both ends meet. Once this section of our society was considered to be most respectable and elite class being an artist but having no other source of income we are in the quagmire being jobless for the last more than a decade.”
The chairing President of J&K Radio Doordarshan and Stage Artists & freelance Producers & Directors Association, Srinagar also requested the Lieutenant Governor JK to pursue the Prasar Bharti with concrete recommendations for the release of backlog and revival of fresh fiction programming so that this section of society will have a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile it was alas stated that considering the impact of the disease outbreak and its impact on the artists, the Governor administration released an amount of 9000/- per artist in the year 2020-21 which made a difference in meeting up the two ends of life for the artists who were left as a dejected lot.
