Srinagar, 11 May 2021. Based on specific intelligence inputs received from JKP regarding presence of some militant in Vailoo area of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, joint forces comprising of Rashtirya Rifles, JKP and CRPF launched a specific operation during early hours of 11 May 2021. The area was in the hilly region at the border of the forest.
The cordon was effective at 4:00 AM. At first light when the search was about to start, some women were seen moving out of a house followed by automatic fire from the house, on the security forces. Cordon was immediately readjusted to cover the house, announcements were made to ensure that there were no civilians in the house which invited more firing from the house and was retaliated. Fire fight ensued in which three LeT militant were eliminated.
During the fire fight, strict restraint was exercised to avoid collateral damage. During the search one AK-47, two pistols and other war like stores have been recovered from the operation site.
